Post-production

The majority of the post-production process relied heavily on software but also had huge cross over with other online and hardware technologies.

We used the software Adobe Premier Pro to edit our sequence and because I wasn't physically there for the shoot day I got involved as much as possible in this stage.

The process of post-production required lots of concentration and perseverance.

First we used the hardware of the Lexar Pro memory card and transfered the material onto an online server so that it could then transfer onto the MacBook pro and onto the Adobe Premier Pro software.

Once on the editing software we began to sort through the rushes in the bin and rename key shots so that we could find them easily. We didn't get all of the shots that were planned on the shot by shot layout so we just had to make do with what we had and adapt the sequence acordingly. I used the mouse to drag one of the rushes onto the timeline where I edited it by shortening parts to get to the place we wanted. I also used the cutting tool which has a shortcut of 'comand c' to split up the clip to either get rid of a certain part or to keep a part for later so you get a sense of continuity despite the cutaways to the different setting in our sequence. an example of this is when the girls are leaning in to kiss and after each cutaway to the exorcism they lean closer and closer together so for this we cut the clip into each of those three sections and then placed them between the exorcism clips and fiddled around with shortening the clips until it felt right.

In this moment when the vicar walks into the room we used excelent seamless continuity editing. We put the two different shots/clips onto the timeline and cut them down to the part that we wanted. We then spent quite a while moving the two different clips around lengthening and shortening them so that they fit together. By the end of this we had successfully edited it so that audience would barely even notice there was a cut between when the vicar walked in and when the camera's position changed.

As mentioned on in pre-production we decided to use the song 'under the milky way' from the film 'the dry'. This song is copy righted so we had to email the record company and the people who own the song to ask for permision to use the song. This allowed us to upload it to YouTube without it getting taken down. We wanted to make it so that our different shots lined up with the lyrics and the tempo/beat of the song. To do this we first dropped the song into the timeline and then dragged the clips we wanted into the timeline and shortened, lengthened and cut the clips. For example we put the exorcism clips in the breaks between the lyrics to make it more ominous and unsettling.
